Independent Project Management

The best design is worthless without qualified project management independent of the installation team. PerfectSiteSM, with its experience, is uniquely qualified to manage the installation team on behalf of the client (tenant). With PerfectSiteSM's QC process, which guarantees quality control with detailed inspections and reporting, costly change orders can be limited. Frequent inspections mean a quicker, better installation. Early problem identifications means less rework and a more efficient job that is standard and warranty compliant. (Real Estate Journal Interactive, "Network Cabling Climbs to Top of Investor's Interests.")

A large pharmaceutical firm is undergoing a corporate relocation. The General Contractor (GC) in charge of the fit-out, but monitored by the construction manager (working on behalf of the client (tenant) and with the architect firm), oversees all trades except the cabling contractor.

The cabling contractor reports directly to the tenant and construction manager. At the end of the project, the cabling is far from complete because the cabling contractor claims that they were not kept up to date about changes in the construction schedule. Also, they were working off of two-week-old architectural plans that did not reflect major changes in the structured-cabling system.

The GC claims that the cabling contractor ignored important construction meetings that would have kept him up to date; and the construction manager misplaced the updated architectural plans he should have given to the cabling contractor two weeks ago.

It is now Friday, and a weekend move is scheduled, The tenant has to move or suffer a major penalty from their old landlord for staying an additional week--not to mention re-scheduling everything else related to this move. The cabling contractor said he can complete the structured cabling and work overtime (at tenant cost), but it still won't get wrapped until after the move.

So for the better part of the week, your firm has to conduct business with limited phones or computers. The tenant must review architectural plans to relay to the cabling contractor the order of importance (mission critical) of which areas need to be up and running first. During this whole process your firm has also scheduled an upgrade of your entire network (which you are in charge of) upon completion of the move.

Multi-Site--U.S. and International

Due to its proximity to Washington, D.C., PerfectSiteSM is largely involved in international, multi-site projects. If 150 offices are being built-out around the world, it is impractical, as well as costly, to fly project managers to be on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

That is why PerfectSiteSM has established an elaborate system of milestones, where a contractor furnishes digital pictures and videotape of key areas for PerfectSiteSM's and the client's review. This system works fine for smaller installations. For larger projects, PerfectSiteSM supplements this process with a project manager. PerfectSiteSM has project managers established around the world to work on projects in their locality. These individuals are particularly attuned to all local codes: electrical, low voltage, life safely, etc.

You have a small but very important remote site (out of state) that has 25 (voice/data) duplex location. A month ago you arranged with a local contractor to perform the cabling. He told you this week that everything is fine. He just has a few little things to take care of, but he will meet you when you get in town and finish them up.

You get in to town (weekend cut-over), go to the remote office, and find only 12 locations have been installed (not labeled). You can't get up with the cabling contractor. The remote office is relocating this weekend and must be up and running Monday morning. What next?

Post-Installation Support

Enjoy the same level of quality control in Moves, Adds, and Changes with quarterly inspections of your structured cabling system.

You are the LAN administrator for your firm and have the added task of handling the structured-cabling moves, adds, and changes (MAC), too. Upon review of service orders from your boss she points out that there is a significant dollar figure being spent (not budgeted) with the MAC work performed last year at your company. She asks you to review these service orders and get back with her.

Upon review of service tickets, you had no idea what had been done and had to report back to your boss that you will keep a tighter reign on the orders this year. The following year the same problem occurs; fortunately, you have a new boss who is unaware of last year's expenditures on MAC.
