System Warranty EvaluationFor peace of mind and protection of your investment, the system warranty is an excellent option. However, every manufacturer's warranty can be different and unclear. How do you know what you are getting? If a problem arises down the road, where do you go to get it corrected? Who is responsible, the certified contractor or the manufacturers?
You had installed a Category 5, UTP structured-cabling system last year and have recently migrated to 100BaseT, but are experiencing intermittent problems with transmission. First, you call in your firm's data consultant. After exhaustive testing (all billable), he blames it on the cabling system. Second, you contact the certified cabling contractor who performed the installation. After more testing, the contractor finds out that it is a delay skew problem with the 2x2 construction of the Category 5, UTP plenum cable. Third, the certified contractor notifies the manufacturer, but finds that it is not covered under the 15-year warranty because it met the TIA/EIA 568-A standard at the time of installation.
